Abdul, Cohort R12

Abdul, a graduate of NECAT’s culinary program at South Bay House of Correction, was the featured alumni speaker at Best of NECAT. Abdul comes from a family of chefs and signed up right away when he learned about the culinary job training through the Pre-release Program.

From the first day of class, he felt seen and heard by Chef Chris, his culinary instructor. The class fueled his determination and once he was released, NECAT’s Career Service team helped him secure a job at a local restaurant in Dorchester and soon, he was promoted.

Abdul started attending NECAT’s Job Club to see how he could leverage his skills to advance his culinary career. He applied for a position at Cactus Club and was hired with an almost 50% pay increase.

“The biggest change isn’t the paycheck, it’s the person I’ve become. I’m consistent, I’m focused, and proud of what I’m building. I couldn’t have done it without the support I’ve received at NECAT, and I am proud to be a NECAT graduate.”
