Ebony, Cohort 55

Ebony, a single mom of four came to NECAT to sharpen her culinary skills and build the career and life she always dreamed of. Ebony’s life-long passion for cooking was evident in everything she does — whether making risotto or creating a culinary slide presentation, she puts her heart into everything.
The day she graduated; her entire family joined her to celebrate. “It was a special day for me, my kids and especially my mom,” said Ebony. “As I walked across the stage to receive my certification, I knew that I had accomplished something my heart truly desired.”
Ebony put her refined skills to work at her job, Earl’s Kitchen & Bar while she was at NECAT and has already been promoted to Event Chef, working in the front of house as a showcase grill chef. She’s also led community cooking demonstrations at the Roxbury Library, teaching people how to create delicious meals to feed a family of four on a budget…something she’s an expert at!
Ebony’s dream is to own a food truck to share her passion and love of food every day. After working with NECAT’s Culinary Instructor, Chef Saba on her food truck, Ebony realized that she needs to know how to manage a business and worked with Career Services Director Jim Carey to apply to Roxbury Community College — and she was accepted!
“Ebony is a star,” said NECAT Executive Director Joey Cuzzi. “She exemplifies what NECAT is all about – she’s worked incredibly hard, made the most of every opportunity and is already achieving success. We could not be happier for her!”
The future is bright for Ebony, she’s making her dreams come true and inspiring everyone she meets. “I never could have guessed how much my life would change in 14 weeks at NECAT,” said Ebony. “I walked in wanting a chance to pursue my passion for cooking as a career, and I walked out knowing that anything and everything is possible for me.”
